Envoy– Why South Africans attack Nigerians, other nationals

The SA High Commissioner to Nigeria, , says: the root cause of attacks by citizens of his country on Nigerians and other nationals was the believe that their means of livelihood was under threat.

Ambassador Lulu, who said the solution to the crisis was being mapped out, assured that his country does not hate other nationals.
In his words: “The root cause can be viewed more as social challenges that exist when some people find out that their businesses are being threatened.
When we were growing up, we had businesses that were run by our own people but now they feel that outsiders have taken over. It is a question of leadership.
I think when people come in we need to see how they can consciously make sure they form partnerships so that they don’t see each other as competitors.
Some believe that people who create problems come into the country illegally and they say South Africa must control the borders. It is not every foreigner that comes into the country illegally.
Some of them do a lot in terms of development of South Africa. Some bring scarce skills. Education is a challenge for us because Apartheid never allowed us to have education.
Those who come from countries that have been free for quite some time, like Nigeria, help in bringing those skills to make sure that the country moves forward. People don’t know where we’ve come from with Nigeria, including our own people.
We want to create a cosmopolitan society and it is only through the coming in of people from other parts of Africa that we can achieve this. So, we need to instill in our people this sense of brotherhood.
However, we are doing a lot to follow up on the people who are involved. It’s not good, it does not reflect well on us as a country.
Some of the concerns raised by our citizens are sometimes genuine and the police and other state workers must begin to address them.
We also appeal to fellow Africans who come to South Africa to respect the laws of the country because South Africans are generally not anti-people. But there are some things that need to be fully addressed to get rid of this problem.
We need to educate our people on our history, we need to consciously welcome partnerships, even in business, between Nigerians, South Africans or Burkina Faso, and so this unnecessary fear is dispelled”.

Mascherano– Messi is bigger than Barcelona

Javier Mascherano has claimed that his club and country team-mate, Lionel Messi, is bigger than Barcelona.
Messi came under serious criticism this week, for his performance in their 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last-16 first leg.
However, Mascherano has come out to defend Messi, insisting he is the greatest player in the history of the club.
He told Barcelona’s club magazine: “He is indispensable. Leo is a unique player. We are talking about the best player in history, in this sport and of this club.“Players who will stay in the history of the club. I think it’s a big error to think that when you leave the club, the club will suffer.
“No, the club is bigger than any player, any other player, except for Leo. That’s the reality and you have to accept it.”

Court verdict: Senator Sheriff – I will make Fayose, Wike irrelevant in PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s National Chairman, Senator Ali-Modu Sheriff said he will shut out Governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose  and the Rivers State Governor, Nyensom Wike from the party.
An Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday, held that Sheriff remains the authentic Chairman of the PDP.
Reacting to the judgment, Senator Sheriff, vowed to put in place a machinery that would not give room to people like Wike and Fayose in any future arrangement in the party.
The former Borno State Governor told reporters, “I will engineer a restructuring of PDP such that characters like Wike and Fayose cannot find a way through to attain any position of prominence in our party in the future.
“They have brought shame and agony through the application of their crude and godless politics which is at variance with the principles upon which our founding fathers built our great party.
“We must find a way to sieve things so that only men of character and integrity can come through for positions of responsibility at all levels of our political engagement in the country.
“We must urgently steer the ship of PDP clear of the path of infamy which Wike and Fayose has brought the PDP party, making Nigerians to mistaken the party (PDP) as a training ground for thugs. That is the urgent task at hand. We cannot continue to advertise thug brand and expect Nigerians to take us seriously.”
